Require info regarding tamil school
Tue Sep 10, 2013 8:52 pm by Positivevibe
I just moved from Chennai, I am looking for admission for my 6 year old kid.
After my extensive search, understand that I can place my kid only in international school, as both of us are holding only professional visa.
Can someone suggest me, if there is any private or tamil school which will admit foreign national?

Private Tuition

Do you send your kids to private tuition after school or do you teach them yourselves? What are the pros and cons of sending kids to private tuition after school? Is it an unnecessary burden for the kids or is it seen as much needed assistance for the kids in terms of education?

A follow up to the discussion we started way back in the little india days. I found this one article dated Jan 2008 about the now famous International Irish University which i was following closely. It was quite an elaborate operation with graduation ceremonies etc.

Private School

Can someone from the education line give me some pointers about private schooling? I have been thinking about this recently as my daughter has come of enrollment age to the primary school. My current considerations are:
1. Sekolah Sri Murni
2. Sekolah Sri Chempaka
3. Convent Bukit Nenas (my personal preference)

Do you use the cane to discipline your kids?
This is a highly debatable subject as there are some parents who insist that using the cane is a big NO-NO while others are convinced the usefulness of the cane to bring up their child in a disciplined manner. What is your take on this, and why do you take such a stand?

Re: Do you use the cane to discipline your kids?
i have a cane at home. Being a parent, i do resort to a cane once in a while but very rarely. I try to avoid using cane most of the time.
Why?
I remember my childhood when cane was used liberally and i dislike those moments. I always feel belittled and not appreaciated by whoever using it to cane me mercilessly. I hate those moments and hated the person who used the cane on me for at least a few days.
Now, i refrain from using it on my precious babies but i do use it if their behaving is clearly unaceptable and i make sure they know why i use the most offending cane on them.
In a nut shell, i hate using cane on my babies since i know the pain it may inflict on and in them.

Re: Do you use the cane to discipline your kids?
I see no harm in caning a child if his/her behaviour is totally unacceptable. But of course caning shud NOT be the guideline to control a child's behaviour. Kids nowadays r totally different compared to us when we were young. The present children grow up fast and think on their toes. The influence of tv, friends and school is enuf for them to absorb all.... and we being parents tend to go soft on them since they r our own..... and the kids use tat against us. Honestly, i use the cane on my nephews as a threatening method..... quite effective. And u shud not do it too often coz if not they'll b immune to it.

Re: Do you use the cane to discipline your kids?
yeah... there is a reason why the old and wise perusus came up with these sayings. Its not for nothing you know. Its what they have personally experienced in their own lives and then having passed on their knowledge and wisdom down the generations and ended up being quotes as idioms or adages. Respect the wisdom of the wise. It can save you the heartaches, sorrows and disappointments in life.

Re: Do you use the cane to discipline your kids?
yeah....vj...i agree with you but not all their advices are applicable now.
My way is very effective for my children. The moment i take the cane, they know that i'm very serious and their offend is not acceptable at all. Most of the time they never repeat.
Caning our children and nagging them frequently would make them immune to the punishment in a long run. Apart from that, you'll produce individuals with low self-esteem.
