Tue Sep 10, 2013 8:52 pm by Positivevibe
I just moved from Chennai, I am looking for admission for my 6 year old kid.
After my extensive search, understand that I can place my kid only in international school, as both of us are holding only professional visa.
Can someone suggest me, if there is any private or tamil school which will admit foreign national?

Private Tuition

Do you send your kids to private tuition after school or do you teach them yourselves? What are the pros and cons of sending kids to private tuition after school? Is it an unnecessary burden for the kids or is it seen as much needed assistance for the kids in terms of education?

Re: What had happened in Mumbai? or happening?
In a scathing comment on ‘Operation Tornado’ mounted by the National Security Guard to flush out the militants holed up inside Colaba’s Nariman House, an official of the Israeli security agency – Shin Bet said that Indian forces have tackled the situation unwisely resulting in the deaths of the Israeli hostages. The officials, from Israel's security forces, told The Jerusalem Post that the Indian troops prematurely stormed the besieged hotels where militants were holding hostages, risking lives in the process reported The Times, London. Seventeen commandos had abseiled onto the roof of Nariman House, while snipers peppered the building with covering fire. The two year old son of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg, the main representative at the Jewish Centre, was rescued along with some other hostages but this morning gunshots and explosions still echoed around the building. A total of 5 hostages were killed in the intermittent firing including Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife Indian counter-terrorist forces were well trained but failed to gather sufficient intelligence before engaging the terrorists, they said. "In hostage situations, the first thing the forces are supposed to do is assemble at the scene and begin collecting intelligence," said a former official in Shin Bet, the Israel Security Agency "In this case, it appears that the forces showed up at the scene and immediately began exchanging fire with the terrorists instead of first taking control of the area," he said. Ehud Barak, the Defence Minister, has expressed his concerns about the safety of Israelis caught up in the attack, such as those held hostage in the Jewish Centre stormed in the early hours of this morning. The security experts' criticism came as it emerged that Mr Barak had offered Mayankote Kelath Narayanan, India's National Security adviser, any assistance possible, either humanitarian or professional. "Barak offered Israel's help in an advisory capacity and in any other way it could be of assistance, be it humanitarian or professional," it reported. The two countries have close defence ties. India has bought more than $5 billion worth of Israeli equipment since 2002. According to the Jerusalem Post, the two countries have already discussed an agreement for Israel's Defence Force to send its own highly trained commandos to help India in Kashmir, the Moslem majority region claimed by both India and Pakistan. The newspaper claism that Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrahi, the commander in chief of Israel's Ground Forces Command spent three days visiting Kashmir in September to discuss the plan. | |||

Re: What had happened in Mumbai? or happening?
'Terrorists were barbaric and sadistic' The terrorists achieved what they wanted to and have managed to send out panic waves across the country though they were defeated at the end. While precise planning was the key to their success another reason why they managed to keep the security forces at bay for such a long time was because they had kept hostages with them. NSG commandos, who took part in the operation, told rediff.com that the terrorists were "sadistic and barbaric". "Although we cannot reveal the exact nature of torture meted out to hostages, we can say that the hostages were not given food or water for the entire three days," he said. The NSG commando says that some of the guards and the guests were tortured and some of them were bled to death. A guard and a guest were found dead in a room. They were stripped, beaten, their legs chained and were bled to death. This only goes on to show how sadistic they were by nature. The NSG is still unable to confirm how many people terrorists had been kept hostage. Not all were kept in the same room, the NSG commando said. Some hostages who were kept together were moved by the terrorists from floor to floor. Every time they wanted to move from floor to floor and shift the hostages, they hurled grenades to distract the NSG. The major part of the damage and torture of the guests were committed before the NSG stormed the building. As most of the guests hid in their rooms and bathrooms, terrorists stormed into their rooms and shot them dead. Only a handful of hostages (around25) were with the terrorists. The NSG commando says that it is highly unlikely that the terrorists could have given the hostages any food or water. The terrorists themselves had very little supply of food and we were aware that they on two occasions did manage to smuggle in food from the store room, the NSG commando also said. The hostages who were with the terrorists were kept in a room and were made to kneel down on the floor at all times. It looks like they killed at least five hostages every day. However, most of the hostages were killed on the last day of the operation when they realized that the battle was coming to an end

Sole survivor of the gunbattle which claimed ATS chief and team remembers the encounter from his hospital bed
O N the third floor of Bombay Hospital, PSI Arun Jadhav is the sole survivor from the gunbattle in which ATS chief He mant Karkare, encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar and Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamte lost their lives.
Attached with the anti-robbery squad headed by Salaskar, Jadhav was called to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), as information of shooting at the heritage station was received. Jadhav was at Marine Lines around 10 p.m. when he was called in to take one of the injured to the hospital.
“I went to our office and picked up two stens and 70 rounds along with my pistol,” recalled Jadhav, adding that he and another officer with him could not find bullet-proof jackets. As they reached CST, they were asked to go to Cama Hospital instead, where terrorists held siege. Salaskar was waiting near SB-1 with a team, ready to move into Cama. Soon, Karkare and Kamte joined in,” said Jadhav.
A team led by Sadanand Date had already entered the hospital premises but it had to retreat after Date was seriously injured. Date was then taken to KEM Hospital by the team. However, Karkare and team received an input that terrorists were travelling in a red vehicle on that road.
According to Jadhav, Karkare got into a DCP vehicle and sat in the front seat next to the driver, while Kamte sat near the window. Salaskar was sitting behind the driver but as the vehicle moved forward, he asked the driver to slow down and got behind the wheel himself. Jadhav was seated at the back with three other constables.
“We were driving slowly ahead when we spotted the red car. Even as we were about 100 metres from the car, there was sudden firing from the left side through trees. We were caught unawares and Karkare, Salaskar and Kamte died on the spot. Kamte was firing with his AK-47 even as he suc cumbed,” recalled Jadhav.
The terrorists continued firing, injuring Jadhav and killing others. As their dead bodies slumped on him, he heard the terrorist opening the vehicle door and removing the bodies of the ATS chief and other cops from the front seat. While entering the vehicle, the terrorists took Karkare’s AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
“I remained slouched as I was alone on the back seat. All the others were dead. The only thing they said when they removed Karkare’s body was ‘jacket hai’ in a Punjabi-Hindi accent,” said Jadhav.
The terrorists then drove towards the Mantralaya and got off at Inox. “The tyre burst and they stopped the vehicle. They got off and threatened the driver of a Skoda or Honda City, and fled in that vehicle towards Girgaum Chowpatty,” said Jadhav.
As soon as they got off, Jadhav alerted the police control on wireless about the terrorists and was rescued by cops, who rushed him to Bombay Hospital.

Second Canadian killed in Mumbai attacks identified Updated Sun. Nov. 30 2008 6:51 PM ET CTV.ca News Staff Reference Source - CTV News, Canada The second Canadian killed in the attacks on Mumbai has been identified as Elizabeth Russell, the partner of a Montreal doctor who was also killed. Family confirmed to CTV Montreal that Russell was killed alongside Dr. Michael Moss when gunmen stormed several sites around India's financial capital. Elizabeth Russell, a retired nurse from Montreal was identified as the second Canadian victim of the Mumbai attacks. She was the partner of Dr. Michael Moss, who was also killed. The couple went to India in late October for a vacation and were due to return to Canada on Monday. They had rented a room at the Oberai hotel, one of two hotels targeted by the terrorists. Elizabeth Russell, 65, was a retired nurse and had been with Moss for about 20 years. Russell was also a social psychologist. Family and friends gathered in Montreal for a private vigil Sunday afternoon. Moss was a veteran physician who worked at the Richardson Hospital Centre for 37 years, his colleague Dr. Ron Ludman told CTV News Friday. Moss was trained in Britain and was a key member of the hospital's rehabilitation program for two decades. "He was a wonderful physician -- an old-time physician -- always advocating for his patients," Ludman added. Moss leaves four children from two previous marriages. Russell leaves two daughters from a previous marriage. Speaking to CTV News last week, Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon said there were 20 Canadians confirmed in Mumbai at the time of the attacks. MUMBAI AFTER ATTACK : Some Unseen Moments ... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Monday most of Mumbai, India attempted a return to normal activity, in the wake of the 60-hour-long siege last week. Some facts about the attacks are a bit clearer now, others still hazy. Based in part on the confessions of the only terrorist captured alive - Azam Amir Kasav (also identified elsewhere as 'Ajmal Qasab'), Indian officials now say that there were only 10 gunmen involved, all members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani militant group with links to the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir - though Pakistan officially denies any involvement. According to recent reports, the ten attackers were responsible for the deaths of 172 people, including 19 foreigners, and 239 wounded. While mourners of the victims attended to their loved ones, and people all over the world held vigils, a Muslim graveyard in Mumbai refused to bury the nine dead gunmen - an official saying that they were not true followers of the Islamic faith.
